ANNOUNCEMENT: We’re changing our name

If you’re reading this, it’s because you know that right now, trade isn’t working.

It helps the rich and powerful protect their own interests at the expense of everyone else. A handful of people make billions while hundreds of millions of people across the world live below the poverty line.

But we also know that trade isn’t a bad thing. We know it’s full of potential – potential to raise living standards, protect the planet, and transform lives for good.

People can use the power of trade to change their lives – like Anjoli in Bangladesh, who left debt bondage behind and now earns an income as a tailor, or for Adama and the women of her village in Senegal, who now sell fruit collectively, rather than at low prices to traders, and are saving together to invest in the future.

We believe in the transformational power of trade – and we’ve got a new name which reflects just that.

So…

Welcome to Transform Trade

Transform Trade, was suggested by one of our amazing supporters – and it encapsulates our mission perfectly.

As a global community of farmers, artisans, collectives, campaigners and supporters… we want to radically transform trade. Standing together against an unjust and broken system, we will stand for a better way of doing business that is centred on people, not profit.

We hope you’ll stand with us.

It’s been a long journey to get here since our early days, and we are so grateful that you’ve supported us every step of the way. While our name has changed, we remain incredibly proud of our heritage, and are still proudly partnered with Traidcraft Plc.

So why a whole new name and look now?

We are facing hugely challenging times. Between the ongoing effects of Covid-19, Aid cuts, conflict in Ukraine disrupting global food supplies, and the continued devastation of the climate crisis, the need to transform trade has never been so urgent.

Millions of people need the positive power of trade in their lives now. We need a name that gets to the point quicker - because there is no time to waste.

We hope that a simpler, more direct name will make it easier for people - both new and familiar - to join the movement to transform trade. And for those who have been with us since the beginning - we hope it makes it easier to explain what this is all about!
