1000 businesses to change the world - 2025 update
By 2030, we’re aiming to invest directly in 1000 producer-led businesses and groups who demonstrate what fairness in trade really looks like.
We’re doing this for two reasons:
To amplify their impact – communities thrive when producers take a lead, work together and pay fairly.
To work together for a fairer system – producer businesses have huge potential to challenge and change the unfair systems that exploit the world’s most disadvantaged people.
Our grants help strengthen producers as a force for change. The great news is that whilst still in the early part of this plan, we’ve already invested in more than 230 producer businesses and collectives so far. That’s 23% of the way there already - and only possible because of your generous support.

From larger businesses like Sadhna, who show the world a fairer fashion industry is possible, to small collectives of women farmers in Tanzania and India, selling their crops as a group – the investments made to strengthen producer groups across the world are changing lives, and making trade fairer for everyone.
This year, we have made 165 direct grants and investments into producer businesses. We provided technical support and facilitation to collectives and businesses and took multiple campaign and policy actions to ensure that the voices and needs of producers across the world are heard in trade policy discussions. Together, we’re making real and tangible change to the trade system.
Going forward
We’re looking now to scale up our grant making to even more groups and accelerate towards that 1000 businesses target. Next year we’ll be expanding our work with tea growing enterprises in East Africa and planning our first steps into operating in brand new countries for Transform Trade.
