Transform Trade campaigns to change decision makers’ approach to climate and change. We need a joined up approach where the climate impacts are considered when making trade decisions.

Climate campaigns

Exit the ECT

The UK is a member of a treaty that allows oil and gas companies to sue Governments for trying to phase out fossil fuels. Over the past two years, 9 countries have announced they’re leaving the climate-blocking Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). The UK needs to be next.

Climate Waiver

Global trade rules block countries from taking climate action. We called on the UK Government to push for a climate waiver - an agreement to lift trade rules that block climate action.

Carbon Cop-Out

The UK Government’s ‘net zero’ target is a lie. It only applies to carbon emissions produced in the UK. In the UK, we no longer produce most of our food, clothes or gadgets. And so the carbon emissions that are released in the production don’t happen in the UK. But where emissions are being released in the production of goods for the UK market, we should be responsible. We need a target to reduce these offshore emissions.

Green trade - ACCTS

In 2021 we called on the UK Government to join ACCTS - a trade agreement started by New Zealand, Costa Rica and others to end fossil fuel subsidies and help green businesses to thrive. Almost 14,500 supported joining ACCTs and the Government genuinely considered joining but in the end they decided against it.
